# Introduction to Custom Methods

A **Custom Method** in WalnutAI is a user-defined action or assertion designed to handle testing requirements that are not covered by the platform’s built-in actions.

Custom Methods extend WalnutAI’s capabilities by allowing you to define your own testing logic and functionality. They can be created using the **WalnutAI VS Code extension**, where you can describe the required behavior in plain language, review and customize the generated implementation, and debug it before making it available in WalnutAI.

Once a Custom Method is synchronized with WalnutAI, it becomes available as a **Custom Action**, which can be added to test cases and used during test execution.

**With Custom Methods, you can:**

* Create custom actions and assertions for functionality not supported by standard WalnutAI actions.
* Describe requirements in plain language and use WalnutAI to generate an initial implementation.
* Customize the generated implementation to meet your specific testing requirements.
* Debug and validate methods in VS Code before making them available for test execution.
* Manage methods through a connected Git repository for version control and centralized management.
* Synchronize changes across the WalnutAI VS Code extension, WalnutAI, and the connected repository.
* Reuse custom functionality across test cases by making synchronized methods available as Custom Actions.
